The School Advisory Council participates in decision making by formulating and recommending, but never enacting policy.   The council helps to establish philosophy for the school, follows, implements, and assists in development of the Strategic Plan, approves and monitors the school budget, makes recommendations regarding the school facility, works with the pastor and the principal and participates in long-range planning for the school.  One of the most important functions of the council is to represent the school, teachers, administration and the school mission in a positive and supportive manner.

The Advisory Council includes no less than 10 voting members who represent a variety of interest areas in support of the school mission.    Elections are held each Spring where parents nominate and elect three board members who are required to serve a term of three years.  The principal and pastor are also members of the council.  Additionally, the pastor may appoint additional members to serve a one year term.

The council meets once a month and an agenda is prepared one week prior to the meeting.  Parents are welcome to attend meetings and if they wish to be on the agenda, they should contact the Advisory Chair or Principal.  Topics brought to the council are not discussed until added to the agenda and personnel issues are not the council's responsibility.

As one of the options for serving as a parent volunteer, being a part of the School Advisory Council is a great way to help shape the direction and future of Cathedral School.
